Visitors to Starr Family Home tour the 1871 Greek Revival home and learn about the Starr family, who lived there and helped settle more than a third of Texas. Visitors receive a guided tour of Maplecroft mansion, the centerpiece of the site, and are free to tour the grounds at their leisure. The home is furnished with original family heirlooms, and the grounds bloom with azaleas, camellias, roses, and assorted flowering plants.
A tour of Starr Family Home typically takes one hour and is primarily indoors. Parking is available, including bus and handicapped parking.
If you have a group of more than 10 people, please schedule your tour at least two weeks in advance by submitting a tour reservation form.
Tours of the museum are designed to complement classroom curriculums. Guided school tours are offered Monday through Friday. We recommend that you book spring tours in the fall. The cost is $1 per student. Teachers in supervision enter free. Please request your tour at least two weeks in advance by submitting a tour reservation form.
