Caddo Mounds State Historic Site invites the public to a Saturday morning bird watching program. Bird watching, aka “birding,” is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the nation, and Caddo Mounds will be hosting both a classroom session and walk around its wooded and wet land areas. Join us! Spring is the best time for hearing bird song and seeing a bird’s colorful plumage.
East Texas, with 353 species, is a great place to bird due to the diversity of habitats in the region. Dr. Brent Burt, professor of biology at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a brief presentation on the basics of bird identification and then lead a birding foray into the diversity of habitats represented at Caddo Mounds.
We expect to see and hear 30-plus species. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars (if you have them), sunscreen, and insect spray.
The $2 program fee includes a tour of the Caddo Mounds site. Seating is limited; please call 936.858.3218 to indicate interest in attending.
