9:15 Outreach Methods to Build an Effective, More Diverse Organization, Andrea Roberts, PhD will lead a discussion about improving outreach efforts so that CLGs and CHC are more inclusive of all people and all histories. Dr. Roberts will also explain her own research with Texas Freedom Colonies and how CLGs can get involved.
11:00 Intro to the CLG Program, CLG Program staff will review the benefits and requirements of the CLG Program as well we discuss how CHCs can apply to become certified.
Noon- Lunch, provided by the Gonzales County Historical Commission
**A special tour of the Edwards High School will immediately follow lunch**
George Edwards High School was built in 1922 as the City of Gonzales’ African American high school during segregation. By 1940, the school employed 8 teachers and served 300 students. The school closed following the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, and later reopened as a Community Center in the 1970s. Today, the Edwards School Association operates and maintains the school.
