Canoes on the river.

Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site and Fort Parker State Park invite the public to join us for a National Public Lands Day/Keep Texas Waterways Clean celebration to help care for our treasured public lands in Limestone County.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that all Americans enjoy. In last year’s cleanup event alone, volunteers removed six cubic yards of debris.

Location:  Limestone Bluffs Paddling Trail (Navasota River)
8 a.m.:  A refreshments “tailgate” at Confederate Reunion Grounds, sponsored by our local Mexia H-E-B store.

Canoes, kayaks, and boats will launch from the Confederate Reunion Grounds river launch area.

It is suggested that you wear comfortable, old clothes and gloves, and bring a bottle or two of drinking water and a snack, if desired. Most of all, be ready to experience the beautiful Limestone Bluffs Paddling Trail as you explore and tidy up the five miles of river between the two sites!

For canoe reservations for public use, sign-up, and information, please call Fort Parker at 254-562-5751 or Confederate Reunion Grounds at 254-472-0959.

The Navasota River is an important feature in the cultural landscape of the Confederate Reunion Grounds and a favorite fishing spot, both modern and historic. Fort Parker Lake provides wildlife habitat for a variety of waterfowl and, along with the Navasota River, is source of water for the city of Groesbeck.

This program is sponsored in part by Keep Texas Beautiful and H-E-B/Central Market.
