The Cameron County Historical Commission is hard at work to make sure that Texas and the nation knows the name of Palmito Ranch Battlefield National Historic Landmark (NHL).

Tuesday, May 12-13, 2015 will mark the sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary of the last land battle of the American Civil War, fought on May 12–13, 1865. The Cameron County Historical Commission’s Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee is busy coordinating a ceremony at the Battle of Palmito Ranch. Battlefield Ceremony at Palmito Ranch Battlefield NHL, 9-11 a.m.

A solemn ceremony, where speakers will pay their respects and a presentation of colors will be held. The event is free and open to the public. THC Historians will attend and participate.
