The Texas Historical Commission (THC) hosts and organizes maintenance and stewardship training workshops for county officials and staff. Since March 2007, the Texas Land Title Association has partnered with THC as a sponsor of our annual Texas Courthouse Stewardship Workshop. The workshop is designed for counties that have received funding through the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program and have completed their projects, or are in the process of doing so. The workshop is a unique opportunity to hear from guest speakers and THC staff on the preventive maintenance challenges and solutions for historic county courthouses.
Typically, the workshop attendees includes a facility manager and an elected official who form each county's courthouse stewardship team. As funding allows, hotel and travel costs may be reimbursed for up to two participants per county. The workshop program includes networking and recognition/awards for noteworthy county stewardship efforts.
Annual and Regional Workshops
In addition to annual Texas Courthouse Stewardship workshops held in Austin since 2007, the program now offers training and networking opportunities on a regional basis. These regional workshops allow for elected officials who share common challenges and concerns to meet and discuss successful approaches; their courthouses have similar environmental conditions and often skilled subcontractors may serve a specific area of the state. These workshops are typically all-day and include a tour of the host county’s courthouse. The regional workshops have been opened to any neighboring county participating in the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program or having a historic courthouse.
The dates for the 2017 Regional Courthouse Stewardship Workshops will be announced on this page. Registration is usually limited to a first-come first-served basis, so please register early!
