Visitor Information

An obelisk at the site honors Stephen F. Austin.General site tours of San Felipe de Austin include memorial features such as a bronze statue of Stephen F. Austin, a commemorative obelisk, and a replica log cabin. The visitors center currently houses small images, a diorama of the colonial capital circa 1830, and activity areas for weekend programs. Interpretive panel exhibits are provided both in the visitors center and on the grounds.

Tours of San Felipe de Austin typically take 30 minutes to one hour. Visitor parking is available on site.

Group Tours

We welcome your group! To request a group tour, please submit a tour reservation formOrganized group tours to Austin County can schedule a step-on, guide-led tour of area sites (including San Felipe de Austin) by contacting the nearby Sealy Chamber of Commerce at 979-885-3222.

We schedule scout programs and tours on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. We offer programs that meet many badge and patch requirements. Browse through our current program choices (PDF).

Gift Shop

A gift shop is located in the visitors center and carries bottled water, small souvenirs, colonial toys, and a selection of adult and children’s books on colonial Texas history.

Accessibility

Crushed granite pathways are provided to the visitors center and log cabin. Wheelchair ramp access is provided at the visitors center.

Facilities

A restroom facility is located adjacent to visitor center (running water is not available). Bottled water is available for purchase at the visitors center. Visitors are allowed to bring food and drinks, but cannot consume them in the visitors center. 

Pets are welcome on site provided they are kept on a leash. Pets are not permitted inside the buildings. To help us with our preservation and conservation mission, and for the safety of our visitors, we ask that visitors respectfully refrain from climbing the monuments and markers on site. Alcohol is not permitted on site, and smoking is permitted only in the parking lot.
