Although Fulton Mansion State Historic Site is now closed for restoration, things have been busier than ever around here. After staff finished packing up all the artifacts and antiques in the house—with assistance from some of our wonderful THC helpers—we opened up the house for our first-ever, large-scale fundraising gala, which we called a “Visual Feast.”
During this once-in-a lifetime opportunity, partygoers were able to attend a party inside the empty mansion. Just as in the days when the Fulton family lived here, the mansion was once again filled with laughter, food, and fun as guests enjoyed the special atmosphere of George and Harriet’s mansion. The entire mansion was open for guests to explore, including parts of the house not shown during regular tours, such as the basement and third floor.
The Visual Feast was a sensory spectacular, featuring fabulous food and decorations in every room, live music, and antique cars parked on the carriage path. Some of Rockport’s finest stores created elaborate tablescapes; Pamela Fulcher showcased her stunning photography on the third floor; and the Aransas County Historical Society shared historic photos in the basement.
As a takeaway for purchasing a raffle ticket, partygoers received a “tussy mussy,” the traditional Victorian party favor of a decorative paper cone filled with flowers. The art students from the Rockport-Fulton High School created these beautiful posies for the event. We were thrilled with the generosity of our guests, who helped us achieve our goal of raising $25,000 during this special night. These funds will be well used in our efforts to restore the grandeur of the Fulton Mansion.
Fulton Mansion is located in the resort area of Rockport-Fulton, 30 miles north of Corpus Christi. The site is part of the Texas Tropical Trail Region.
