Nearly 400 grade-school children visited Landmark Inn State Historic Site to participate in the 17th Annual Kids Fish on Saturday, January 26. The Landmark Inn mill stream was stocked with 1,000 rainbow trout for the old-fashioned cane pole fishing event, sponsored by the Friends of the Landmark Inn.
The weather was great, and the children enjoyed the challenge of bringing in a fish or two for dinner. A few were even lucky enough to catch their limit of five, and a few more actually walked away with their fish and a door prize. It was a very successful event, and the participants learned how children of early settlers put food on the family’s table by catching fish.
To make this event possible, Landmark Inn staff was assisted by the Friends of the Landmark Inn board members and more than 60 volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 471, Girl Scout Troop 76, Friends of the Castroville Library, and Friends of the Castroville Animal Control.
Landmark Inn State Historic Site is located in Castroville, approximately 20 miles west of San Antonio, in the Texas Hill Country Trail Region.
