Pioneer Day at the Landmark Inn went off without a hitch this year. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. The event featured 19th-century-themed exhibits, displays, and demonstrations of pioneer life. Local fourth graders were invited to view the exhibits, and more than 250 students, teachers, and parents attended. Everyone had a wonderful time learning about pioneers in the 1800s.
Attendees had an opportunity to try their hand at lace-making, exploring various pioneer-era toys, wine-making, woodworking with simple hand tools, and listening to Sgt. Major John Jones tell early history stories of Indians, cavalry soldiers, and the Texas Rangers on the Texas frontier.
The students also enjoyed making miniature adobe bricks and stacking them to make walls, as presented by Nano Calderon from Casa Navarro State Historic Site.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who gave their time and energy to make this a fantastic learning experience for everyone.
Landmark Inn State Historic Site is located in Castroville, approximately 20 miles west of San Antonio, in the Texas Hill Country Trail Region.
