Saturday, December 9, 2017 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
December 11, 2017, will mark the 100th anniversary of the execution of thirteen members of the 24th Infantry Regiment at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. These "Buffalo Soldiers" had been tried in the largest court martial in U.S. history which took place in response to the Camp Logan Riot on August 23, 1917.
None of the court martialed men received proper legal representation or had access to an appeal. All had been subjected to heavy abuse and Jim Crow laws while stationed in Houston.
To commemorate this anniversary, a ceremony organized by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Bowtie Boys Mentoring Program will take place on Saturday, December 9, at noon at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (Sec PA-B Headstones 20-36).
Joining them for a commemoration program will be the Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Association. The event is free and open to the public.
