JOB OBJECTIVE: Under the direction of the Curatorial Field Manager, this regional curator position performs complex consultative and technical work for assigned museums within the system of 32 State Historic Sites stewarded and operated by the Historic Sites Division (HSD) of the Texas Historical Commission (THC). This position oversees collections at the Washington-on-the-Brazos complex which includes the Star of the Republic Museum. This position assists site staff in the collections management for the Independence sites. Collections care duties are standard and include implementation of documentary control over collections, identification of collections conservation priorities exhibit development and registration of collections.
The WOB complex is in the process of a significant redevelopment, with a major component being the renovation and redesign of the Star of the Republic Museum and its exhibits. The museum holds a significant collection, over 9,000 objects, which represent a spectrum of material culture from the Republic of Texas to Early Statehood and Secession eras (1830-1861). This curatorial position will orchestrate the move and temporary rehousing of museum collections and participate closely with WOB and Austin site staff on the future exhibit.
