JOB OBJECTIVE: This position leads the Texas Main Street Program (TMSP), concentrating on the revitalization of approximately ninety historic downtowns across the state. TMSP is a preservation-based, downtown revitalization effort with a 40-year track record of assisting Texas communities of all sizes. The program supports participating urban and rural communities across the state with revitalizing their historic downtowns or commercial districts through preservation, place-making and developing a positive economic climate locally. The team actively supports community efforts to renew downtowns and commercial neighborhoods as walkable, economically viable places with an improved quality of life. The place-driven and market-informed approach combines the latest thinking in urban planning and design, incremental development, and economic analysis to inspire, teach, activate, and support local governments, developers, and business owners in the creation of meaningful and sustainable environments. The team helps communities envision and articulate positive change, develop an implementation plan, and is responsible for assisting the stakeholders in achieving the desired revitalization results.

The state coordinator performs advanced, senior-level planning, development, and implementation of a major agency program and provides consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and the public. The coordinator leads and monitors the work of seven full-time team members that includes professionals with architectural, preservation, design, planning, and economic development degrees and expertise. Works under limited supervision of the Community Heritage Development Division director, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Occasional travel required, averaging three nights per month with some ability to control the travel schedule.
