Did you know that Fort McKavett was one of the first telegraph stations in West Texas?  Come out and see how that landmark historic event was accomplished in 1875 with Company C!  Reenactors from around the world will gather at Fort McKavett to present a true snapshot in time as they portray soldiers of the 10th Infantry Regiment that built the telegraph line connecting Forts McKavett and Concho to San Antonio.  This reenactment will feature soldiers and citizens who lived at Fort McKavett nearly 150 years ago.  Stop by Hotel McKavett in nearby Scabtown to meet some early Menard County Residents; learn about military telegraphy from Private Edwin Prince (McKavett’s telegraph operator) first hand!  For more information, visit the Event Listing on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/events/619832875542408/.  Those interested in participating in the event as a reenactor should contact event coordinators at Kevin.Malcolm@thc.texas.gov.
