Come celebrate with us as we dedicate an Official Texas Historical Marker at Mount Hope Church as part of our 4th Annual Tyler County on Tour. The Mount Hope Church is among the oldest Protestant, and oldest continuously maintained Methodist churches in Texas. Located along the Old Spanish Road that ran from Nacogdoches to Atascosito (Liberty), the church had its origin in a three-day brush arbor preaching event in 1837 conducted by an English missionary at the log home of pioneer settlers James and Tabitha Barnes.

Directions: From Chester, take FM 1745 northeast to FM 2600, turn left, continue to FM 2615 then turn right and arrive at the church. Event signs will be in place to make your drive an easy one.

Chester is on U.S. Highway 287, thirteen miles northwest of Woodville, in northwestern Tyler County. Mount Hope Church is located about 3 miles from Chester, in the pioneer Mt. Hope Community.
