San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site

Join us on Saturday, April 1st, 2023 for an in-depth look at the events that led to the fall of the town of San Felipe de Austin in March of 1836.
As Santa Anna draws near, civilians of San Felipe de Austin left on the Runaway Scrape in an attempt to outrun the incoming Mexican army. Once civilians had fled, the town militia set San Felipe ablaze in order to buy precious time in the preparation for the inevitable battle at San Jacinto.
Featuring live demonstrations, reenactments, and guided tours, Fire on the Brazos will provide an account of the events that took place and the people forced to abandon and burn their own homes and businesses in Texas' economic, social, and political center of the 1820s and 1830s.
The event runs from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, April 1st. The story starts here, at San Felipe de Austin!
