Fort Griffin Star Party

Apr 22 2023 - 8:30pm to 10:30pm

Baseball Field in the Campground

Local area astronomers from the Big Country Astronomy Club will be out to share their knowledge of the night skies, telescopes, and other astronomy equipment with you! You will have the opportunity to see planets, nebulas, distant galaxies, our own galaxy, and much more!

Fort Griffin has gained quite the reputation for having some of the darkest night skies in all of Texas. Due to the remote location of the site, there is minimal light pollution to hinder nighttime viewing of the stars. With such a great resource at our disposal, we don’t want to let it go to waste.

Program will be held in the baseball field of the campground, which is on the east side of Highway 283, and north of the main fort entrance. The price for the event is regular admission to the site. Site staff will collect admission along the road to the campground, if you are arriving after hours. Please dim headlights when coming into camp area, and drive very slowly.
