Mission Dolores State Historic Site
Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 6, 2022 when Mission Dolores will be hosting the Educator/Interpreter for the Star of the Republic Museum, Jordan Lucier, as she presents two programs on Frontier Medicine for us here at Mission Dolores.
At 11 am, bring your kiddos for "HELP! Where’s the Doctor? Barber? Butcher? Mother?" and learn about the brave, the scientific, and sometimes, the gross, world of Texas Frontier Medicine. Our younger visitors will use their problem-solving skills as they find the best person for medical help in town and discover what 1800s medical tools to use to heal an injury or illness.
At 2 pm, Jordan will be presenting "Medical Practitioners: Problem-solvers of the Texas Frontier" How would you define a medical practitioner today? How would you define a medical practitioner on the Texas Frontier in the 1800s? Settlers on the Texas Frontier often had to face injury and illness without the aid of a trained doctor. This program allows visitors to discuss the ingenuity and problem-solving skills required of 1800s Texas settlers trying their hand at medical procedures.
Jordan cannot wait to make her first trip to Mission Delores on August 6th. Jordan Lucier, M.A. Heritage and Museum Science, works as an Educator/Interpreter for the Star of the Republic Museum at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site. She loves teaching, crafting, and hanging out at home with her cat Cloves.
Mark your calendar and keep an eye here for more details as we move through summer!
