Join the Texas Historical Commission (THC) and learn to research and apply for an Official Texas Historical Marker for a topic in your community. These free workshops provide an overview of important historical research fundamentals, as participants review a sample historical marker application and narrative.

The presentation encourages consideration of the elements which comprise successful marker applications. Topics include historical significance and integrity, conducting research, primary vs. secondary sources, research tools, writing the narrative and the roles of the THC and county historical commissions (CHCs) in the application process.

Led by Historical Markers program staff, the workshops will be offered throughout Texas over the next several months. Check the THC Calendar of Events at the address below for full details and registration information or call the History Programs Division main line at 512.463.5853 or email history@thc.texas.gov.
