Historically Well: Healing the Enslaved
Wednesday, February 10, 2021
7 p.m., via Zoom

Monthly, interactive programs that delve into real stories of wellness found in the history of the plantation. All programs are free and open to the public via Zoom. Most programs are recommended for ages 13+, unless otherwise noted. Advanced registration is required.

Discussing the wellness of enslaved people seems contradictory, at best. Plantations were environments that cared little for an enslaved person’s mental, physical or even, spiritual well-being. What happened, though, when an enslaved person became seriously ill? On February 10, 2021, we’ll explore the types of healing remedies described by Sarah Ford and Anthony Christopher in their oral histories. We’ll also examine Patton plantation probate records that detail the medical treatments administered to the enslaved people on the plantation for more severe illnesses.
