Nat Hart Davis Museum and Pioneer Complex

Come celebrate the dedication of a historical marker for the Lake Creek Settlement. The Lake Creek Settlement was the earliest Anglo-American settlement in Montgomery County, Texas. Bob Steakley, the President General of The Sons of the Republic of Texas and Barbara Stevens, the President General Elect of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will both be speaking at this event. Men from the Lake Creek Settlement fought valiantly in the Battle of Concepcion, the Grass Fight, the Siege of Bexar and the Battle of San Jacinto. One of these men, John Marshall Wade manned one of the "Twin Sisters" cannons during the battle. This settlement in Austin's Second Colony was completely forgotten to Texas historians by the 1920s.
