Join Max Dashu, Suppressed Histories Archives, for a night with Snake Woman. Max Dashu takes us on a visual journey through snake goddesses, ancestors, shapeshifters and medicine women around the world. We’ll see rock art from Australia, Brazil, Utah, and South Africa; seals from eastern Iran, Canaanite gold, Egyptian stelae, Aztec statues, Argentinian bronzes, Frankish ivories, and masks from Nigeria to the Ivory Coast. The woman who grasps serpents in both hands is a theme that spans the continents. Snake goddesses from Egypt, Mexico, Germany, China, India, Dahomey, and Mali; python oracles from Greece, Malawi, and Surinam. Snake women as fairies and saints, as shamans and their helping spirits. This event is a fundraising for the Friends of Caddo Mounds. Funds raised will be used to commission a new Snake Woman sculpture from Caddo artist Raven Halfmoon. Raven's original sculpture was lost in the April 13th tornado. Where: Morning Glory Yoga Studios (MG2), 409 East Main Street, Nacogdoches.
