French Legation State Historic Site
Join Capitol Art Society artist Beryl Kerwick for this live plein air art demonstration at the French Legation. Beryl will do a demonstration of her technique while explaining her method and the equipment needed for plein air painting.
This artist demonstration is part of the temporary exhibit Common Ground / Terrain D'entente. The French Legation State Historic Site in partnership with the Capitol Art Society, the oldest active visual arts group in Austin, Texas proudly presents Common Ground / Terrain D’entente: an art exhibition representing selected works of the 35-member artist roster. Artists within the organization were invited to submit works that interpreted the theme of common ground. Honoring the French Legation as a site of community, historically and now in the present and hopefully into the future, artwork inspired by this theme deals with timeless connections, sharing, and community, and the varied ways we all share common ground.
From watercolor to pastel, historic processes and modern methods, the exhibition honors not only connection in space and time but also the history of the site and history of the Capitol Art Society, an organization who’s member roster boasts artists which have been selected for their talents and keeping with traditional subject matter. The French Legation and exhibited artists invite you to consider these and historic works and how the subject matter and mediums presented cross time and space to connect us to the past, invite sharing, and build common ground.
Historic paintings not usually on display are available for viewing during this temporary exhibition and help to contextualize the modern works by the Capitol Art Society.
The exhibit will be on display inside the historic French Legation during regular business hours from April 1 – October 30, 2023.
Admission to the exhibition is included regular ticket prices.
