Join us at 10am in the Nature Center at Stephen F. Austin State Park (located 1 mile west of San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site) for a program covering the story of the end of San Felipe de Austin. In March, 1836, the Runaway Scrape forced families out of the area towards America hoping to escape the approaching Mexican army. As a defensive tactic, the militia burned the town of San Felipe de Austin to prevent supplies from entering the hands of the Mexican army. San Felipe de Austin as the political center of Texas never recovered and returning families often rebuilt their lives in nearby towns and economic centers.

Admission to Stephen F. Austin State Park required. Texas State Parks Pass holders free of charge!

Second Saturdays with Steve are monthly programs presented by the staff of San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site in collaboration with the Stephen F. Austin State Park.
