Fort McKavett State Historic Site
Join members of Company H, 8th US Infantry (ca. 1853) as they work to create their own reproduction uniforms for future events and programs. Historically, the uniforms of the US Army would have been handmade by citizens living near arsenals like Schuylkill, Pennsylvania and others. However, once stationed on the frontier, soldiers would have to have uniforms tailored and repaired either by themselves or by an appointed “Company Tailor”. Come see how these skilled artisans ply their trade in their quest to improve the world of reenacting. We will be assisting participants with making ‘32/’51 Fatigue Jackets, ’51 Frock Coats, ’51 Footman’s Trousers, and ‘39 Fatigue Caps.
