Rounds I–II
The 76th Texas Legislature appropriated an initial $50 million for the program. This appropriation provided funds for the first two rounds of grants. Round I grant recipients included 19 counties that were awarded a cumulative $42.4 million on May 4, 2000 for their restoration projects. Round II recipients included 28 counties that received grants in October 2000 for the development of detailed construction plans and specifications (planning grants).

Round III
In 2001, the 77th Texas Legislature approved another $50 million for additional courthouse grant funding. The Texas Historical Commission announced Round III grant recipients on January 11, 2002 in Houston. Matching grants totaling approximately $39,178,221 were awarded to 14 Texas counties to undertake major restoration projects. Emergency grants totaling approximately $8.2 million were awarded to eight counties on April 18, 2002 in Abilene. On January 30, 2003 in San Antonio, the THC announced three planning grant awards totaling approximately $750,000.

Round IV
The 78th Texas Legislature approved the sale of $45 million in bonds to continue courthouse preservation projects in the 2004-05 biennium. The single application deadline for Round IV was April 1, 2004. Of a total 72 Round IV applicants, eight were new applicants, 37 applications were revised and 27 applications were rolled forward from a previous round without changes. The total state funds requested was more than $160 million.

Round V
The 80th Texas Legislature approved the sale of $62 million in bonds to support the highly succesful program. A total of 48 applications were received in November 2007 requesting more than $204 million in state funding. In January 2008, 14 projects were selected to receive grants for construction and three projects were selected to receive grants for emergency work.

Round VI
The 81st Texas Legislature approved the sale of $20 million in bonds. A total of 44 applications were received in December 2009 requesting more than $173 million in state funding. In January 2010, 20 projects were selected to receive grants.

Round VII
The 82nd Texas Legislature again approved the sale of $20 million in bonds. A total of 40 applications were received in December 2011 requesting more than $158 million in state funding. In January 2012, 13 projects were selected to receive grants.

Round VIII
The 83rd Texas Legislature approved $4.2 million for the Round VIII funding cycle. Due to the very limited appropriation, grants were limited to a maximum $450,000 state share with a 50/50 minimum match requirement. A total of 24 applications were submitted in 2014 and represented more than $18 million in anticipated emergency project costs. In April 2014, 18 projects were selected to address critical needs.

Round IX
The 84th Texas Legislature approved $20 million for the Round IX funding cycle. A total of 25 applications were submitted requesting more than $78 million in state funding. In July 2016, eight projects were selected to receive grants.

Round X
The 85th Texas Legislature approved $20.2 million for the Round IX funding cycle. A total of 17 applications were submitted requesting more than $19 million in state funding. In April 2018, 18 projects were selected to receive grants. In January 2019, 25 projects were selected to receive grant funding for Master Plan Updates.

Round XI
The 86th Texas Legislature approved $25 million for the Round XI funding cycle. A total of 21 applications were submitted requesting more than $108 million in state funding. In June 2020, 9 projects were selected to receive grants.
