Internship Title:  Sam Bell Maxey House Research Internship

INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Research Intern will take point on a political history research project that the Maxey House has available. The Intern will go through 12 years of Congressional Records from the United States Senate and complete research papers on topics that Sam Bell Maxey spoke on and how he fit in to the larger picture of politics at the time. The Research Internship must last at least 120 hours, but can last longer.

Complies with all agency Internship Program policies and procedures.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Written papers on political topics important to Sam Bell Maxey and how they fit into the overall political picture; Potential to assist with interpretive projects based on the written research, such as social media exhibits or social media posts; Creation of social media posts regarding their internship and projects

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Interest in museums, history, archives, and/or education
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and people skills
  • Knowledge of standard office computer skills, including database software and word processing
  • Ability to work independently and on detailed tasks
  • Degree or expected degree in history, politics/government/civics, humanities, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in politics/government/civics, and/or history.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Applications will be accepted from currently enrolled college students who are sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students and recent Bachelor's and Master's degree graduates.
