Homeschool families and groups from across north Texas are invited to Homeschool Day at the Sam Bell Maxey House on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 for educational programs from local organizations, games, and more.

The Roots of Pan Dulce - A Cinco De Mayo Celebration with Joe's Bakery

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the French Legation is partnering with iconic local bakery, Joe's Bakery, to host a history lesson on East Austin panaderías and the French connection to Mexican pan dulce through Saturday.

Rifle and Musket Demo

On May 8th, venture to this historic battleground to experience some of the thunderous sounds of battle as San Jacinto Battleground staff demonstrate how to fire a musket and rifle, weapons both the Mexican and Texian armies utilized on the fateful day that won Texan independence.

Cycling Saturdays

The roads within the San Jacinto State Historic Site will open early for bicyclists. Travel our 7.5 mile route of site roads and see the battleground where Texas was won at your own pace. No motorized vehicles will be allowed into the site during this time to promote safe bicycling.

Demo Day: Candle Making

Come to the San Jacinto Monument on May 16th to see a demonstration of the candle-making process frontiersmen and women used to create light for their homes.
